What is this site about?
This site is intended to be a helpful guide for anyone of any skill level attempting a do-it-yourself project. We focus on rarely covered topics that typically require us to start "from scratch" in order to solve.
We maintain four major categories for projects:
- Around the House - Home repair, modification, maintenance
- In the Kitchen - Cooking, cleaning, and equipment maintenance
- High Tech - Computers, TVs, Internet, etc.
- In the Garage - Car repair, maintenance, and diagnostics
Who writes for From The Scratch?
Primarily our articles are written writers with specific knowledge of in any of the major categories. However we also accept user written submissions which, if deemed appropriate for the site, are posted. Anyone who contributes an article receives credit and a link back near the bottom of their article.
How is this site different
We feel that From the Scratch is different from most do-it-yourself sites in that our site features in depth pictures and instructions on how to get the job done. From the very beginning this has been our calling so to speak. We are currently looking at adding video clips as well as audio podcasts to cover certain topics.
Why did we create this site
Simply to help other people get things done. Several regular site contributors got together and realized that we were, on our own, writing how-to and do-it-yourself content on our own personal sites. We decided that we should organize all of this content in one central place so that we could more easily share it with other DIY enthusiasts.
About our difficulty rating system
In an effort to accurately rate the difficulty of each solution we have devised a five degree scale which is determined by the amount of preparation and whether or not special tools or parts are needed
